Larry, for what should be obvious reasons I can't discuss things, publicly or privately, that could affect the security of the forum. But to answer your 1st question - yes. And that's all I'm gonna say about it. As to the 2nd question, there is a link available to anyone and everyone, even non members, on the page that everyone who is not logged into the forum sees that allows them to contact Peter. And if Peter chooses not to respond to messages, well then you can bet there's a reason he doesn't respond. I have no idea how or why such a thing could even happen. It's certainly the first time I've ever heard of such a thing. As a general rule we have about 40 people a day who register here, people from anywhere and everywhere in the world. Including people who use systems from just about every govt. agency you've ever heard of - DOD, FBI, DOJ, CIA, DHS, IRS, US Treasury, US Mint, etc etc etc. Even local law enforcement agencies register here from time to time. And not a one of them has ever had a problem. Let alone one like you describe. So the only thing I can think of is that he has some specific settings that he's chosen to make on his own system that caused it. But I have no idea what those settings could be, I can't even imagine it. I have some pretty strict settings on my own security, with no exceptions or exclusions added, and I've never had problem when I access CT. Even when I use a secure browser that blocks literally everything that could be even remotely harmful - I have no problems or warnings when I access CT.
Blast from the past! At FUN 2006 or so, I was seated next to Ash Harrison, a fellow VAMmer, at the table of a "staunch" PCGS dealer. I was searching primarily for 1878 Morgan 8TF's. The dealer handed me a stack to look at, and Ash immediately recognized that one was mislabeled and should have been "7 TF". The dealer overheard the comment, glared at me while (literally) snatching it out of my hand to put it away. Now, that's a Kool-Aid drinker! Chris
I truly miss the absence of Tom B on these forums. His expertise and advice to me was invaluable. I haven't been over to CU since they refused to update an OGH of mine which no longer appeared in their data base. They would re-holder it (what they said) but that's not what I wanted. I wanted the coin to be retained in its' original state, and I have seen others afforded that service, but 'little guys' don't matter in that neck of the woods. I'm happy as a clam here.........
I found one like this the other day. You would think that they would just fix it in the data base and be done with it. I would also want to keep the OGH.
Yeah, Tom was a great guy and very smart. I just never could understand why he would get sick over the thought of eating hard-shell crabs. Chris
There probably was a time when it was that simple, and then it was ruined by people trying to get fake slabs legitimized that way
The CT discussion over there started because some member posted a sob story about CT and probably left out the most important parts! Each of the three best coin boards (4th NGC is washed up and dead) is best for something. CT is best for ancients. Another thing, we can talk about TPGS all we want as CT is not connected to one.
WRONG! Here is a fair warning for you Doug. You can either back off your previous statement, or I’m perfectly willing to relitigate my ban from this forum.
Lehigh96, posted: "WRONG! Here is a fair warning for you Doug. You can either back off your previous statement, or I’m perfectly willing to relitigate my ban from this forum." This is the type of crap that gets knowledgeable folks as you Lehigh banned from forums. Only a fool writes stuff like this. Where does anyone think they have one speck of power on a coin forum? NEWS FLASH: Mods and owners are GODS! That means they can do ANYTHING, say anything, change anything, and ignore anything. If you think for one minute I believe there is a level playing field on any coin forum you are ! Want the definition of a "just reason:" B E C A U S E.
Doug isn’t like that, he doesn’t ban people out of spite. But the fact remains that I was banned permanently from this forum in a complete overreaction by a rookie moderator. After speaking with Peter, my ban was changed to a one month suspension solely in an effort for the mod to save face. So when Doug says that nobody has ever been banned from this forum without just reason, he is factually incorrect.
Lehigh96, posted: "But the fact remains that I was banned permanently from this forum in a complete overreaction [?] by a rookie moderator." What part of this did not compute: "MODERATORS (even the rookies) and owners are GODS! That means they can do ANYTHING, say anything, change anything, and ignore anything." Therefore, Gods cannot "overreact." The fact that your sentence was modified shows that he who has all the power can express it in any way. Perhaps the strongest manifestation of absolute power is when it is used to forgive. Lehigh continued: "After speaking with Peter, my ban was changed to a one-month suspension solely in an effort for the mod to save face. So when Doug says that nobody has ever been banned from this forum without just reason, he is factually incorrect." And you know this for a fact because you were at the meeting with the Gods, right? Let's get back to coins. Good night all!
Can we stop with the Gods nonsense? They are in control of the forum and can basically set any rules they want for the forum, that doesn't make someone a God.
Stop being a goofball. In the discusssions that followed my banning, Peter admitted that the mod overreacted, so yes, I do know!
I am a member of both forums but if I remember right have only posted once on CU, when I was looking for an attribution on a coin that I wasn’t able to get here. I regularly read both but am partial to this one as it feels like home for me. There is a lot of expertise on CU and friendly people but I like the fact that CT is not owned by any commercial interests. Any forum needs to have rules, but when those rules favor one company’s interests over others it raises concerns about objectivity.
CU doesn’t exist for objectivity. It exists to promote the interests of PCGS. It’s not a bad site by any means, but that caveat should be remembered.
Do you really want to go here again ? This makes what the umteenth time ? Paul, as you have been told over and over, you were banned because you refused to obey a moderator's instructions when he told you stop, not once, not twice, but five times in the same thread. Only then were you banned. And whether you want to agree or not, refusing to obey a moderator, let alone doing it 5 times in the same thread, IS just reason. Given THAT, I am factually correct in my original statement. Now if you want to argue about the time period, try this. Go stand in a corner, face the two walls, and argue with the echo that bounces back in your face.
OH MY..so this is a life time ban..no parole.... no rehab.. just final...whoa guess I better watch my pie hole
