I was a CU member for 10 years. They allow free advertising via sig lines. I clicked to the webstore of a longtime member, and made a purchase. I paid extra for expedited shipping. I ended up with nothing. Messages to customer service went unanswered.

Then I remembered I could PM the member, since he posts daily, if not hourly and braggs about the longest standing bump of the BST. So I sent a PM, it said your customer service sucks.

Within an hour I was bammed. Baby told his mamma.

I'd met some great people over the years, and some scoundrels too. I found the registry variety guys to be very cut throat. One in particular pretends to be friends with everyone, but behind the scenes badmouths all of them. He tried to pimp me on a coin I found he wanted for his set. Offered me a grand for a 5K coin. I said no, and with that he badmouthed me all over the forum, said I was just a flipper. He's still there and would befriend his own mother to build his sets. Variety is the sign of the pimp.

Now, there are lots of changes taking place, some for the good, some meh.

Timeouts, bannings, and the same elitists touting their superior knowlege amidst the watchful eye of a new lunch/recess supervisor.

But if anything there's definately entertainment . There's a guy that openly hates cats, lots of profilic naysayers, and attention seeking Gandolph, bring forth the Oracle types.

There are also of course some very brilliant minds mixed in. Some of the same guys that have been there from the start.

My guys have unfortunately passed on, but the memories remain. I still lurk over there from time to time, but wouldn't have anything to say regardless.

I am a member and post at all 3 forums (CU, NCG and CT). I've been at CU and NGC for 13 years and here almost 10. I've never had trouble with any of them. I see a lot of the same members at all three. I agree that that the complainers have an axe to grind for something caused by breaking a rule, maybe by accident. I just find it hard to believe posters are getting booted for no reason at all.

I think for the most part people like forums because it imparts a sense of team, commoradery, and the us vs. them attitude. People that have never met somehow adopt a good guy belief in everbody, because it's a team spirit thing.

I held this same naive belief. In fact, I'd spotted one of the good guys, a CU, PNG, etc... in the industry selling a misattributed coin and let him know. I thought he'd pull it and have it reviewed. Nope, he told me to buy it and make PCGS eat it. Also said I was wrong and that he was trying to make 100 bucks. Run PCGS Cert 33308652, look at the current attribution. Then scroll down to see the Ebay auction result for the coin price sold with the misattribution. Good vs. Bad yet still on the team.

@GDJMSP I have found that this forum has been more than fair with everyone.
Is it possible for a new member that has never been a member to be banned before they ever post? If it did happen, how can that person contact someone to try to work it out?
One more question. A good friend of mine, someone really cool was wanting to sign up here. His system security went crazy and he did not want to take the risk. Any thoughts on what I can tell the guy to make him change his mind?

I also participate somewhat over at CU. But this site is a lot more friendly and has many more interesting threads. There is a sense of community here that CU doesn’t duplicate, at least for me.

I went over there to look at it and saw some familiar coins! A couple of those is this an error, is this DD went there, must be for a second opinion.

    This is my history.
20 years on CU, 18 on NGC and 11 on CT.
I have found that 99% of the members on all the forums to be cool folks. Maybe 1% seem to be out to create problems. I hate it when such a small amount of people create drama that gets everyone upset. I'll never understand why folks dislike a different forum because of such a few.

    Hey, Larry!

Are CU members still called "Kool-Aid drinkers"?
