I've seen either side of the argument be made online and really I don't know why I don't just come to you guys first. Ultimately I trust your opinions the most. So I'm looking at a roll of 40 uncirculated 1999-2015 silver quarters for ~175$ from Apmex. Would this be a mistake?
You will get exactly what is described and nothing more. They will have been looked over and any rarities or obvious high value errors taken out. Might you find a minor, minimal value variety? Sure, it's possible. If you are just looking for silver, melt on 40 90% silver quarters is closer to $110 today, so you could likely find the same quantity of silver for $120ish at a coin show.
I'm not sure I've ever noticed a roll of 90% silver 2009 - 2015 quarters offered at a show before, and I suspect the premium for those is significantly higher than for typical pre-65 quarters.
APMEX is a trusted source. Their prices are a little bit higher than other bullion sites, but to answer your title question, yes, they can be trusted. I agree with @Burton Strauss III though. For the item you mentioned, you will get exactly what is described nothing more. I've purchased bullion pieces from them with no problem.
Yeah I would have to drive 400+ miles to the next coin show and here there isn't another till 2019. So 120 + expenses to get there and probably stay over night....I'm gonna order it. Thanks guys!
Then you should have no problem with APMEX. You could also look at JM Bullion. Another trusted source that I've used frequently.
Well, I do have one small spot of good news for you... If you can be patient, you can gather a roll of proof silver quarters for a good bit closer to spot than that. I regularly pass up silver proof sets on eBay that are priced better. For example, here's a 2010 quarter set (six quarters) for $25 shipped: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-US-MI...R-SILVER-PROOF-SET-NO-BOX-OR-COA/273742152558 You need patience because the ones listed at good prices do sell quickly. But there will be more along if you keep watching. I generally don't buy silver proof sets unless they're at or below melt. As a result, I don't buy silver proof sets very often. But I have accumulated quite a few over the last five or ten years.
Yeah, I boycotted ebay after an item was never delivered and they kept sending me back and forth between the seller and paypal. They sided with a dishonest seller and that was it until the end of my time. It adds up to 4.39 per coin on my purchase. So I paid like 22 cents more per coin.
Also would these work for storing them? https://www.amazon.com/Guardhouse-Double-Pocket-Unplasticized-Flips-Inserts/dp/B00K0WXBPY/ref=sr_1_17?keywords=coin protector&qid=1551632700&s=gateway&sr=8-17 Or what would you recommend?
It depends on what you want them for. They'll arrive stacked in a plastic tube, and I don't think APMEX makes any guarantees about how they've been handled. The flips you linked should be fine for storing them if you want each individual coin to have both sides visible. If you only want to store them, you might as well leave them in the tube. Which product exactly are you looking at? Silver quarters from that era would be proof, not "uncirculated" (although they probably haven't been circulated). I see APMEX rolls of BU pre-1965 quarters at $146.48, and silver Statehood/ATB proof rolls at $139.25. $140 for a roll of proofs would be hard to beat without considerable patience, especially if you aren't willing to deal with eBay.
I like these, shop around, I grabbed the first ad I saw. https://www.amazon.com/QUARTER-Direct-Fit-Airtight-Capsule-QUARTERS/dp/B01H28MO2O
Ordered AGEs through APMEX. Never a problem. They run eBay specials, at least on gold, where you can use PayPal with no additional premium.
Yipe -- $175.59? The same thing is $139.25 ordering direct from their website (and paying by wire or check), $145.05 from their eBay store (or ordering direct from them with PayPal payment). I guess that says something about the overhead Amazon imposes on their third-party sellers. Even if I'd had a bad experience with a dishonest eBay seller, I'd be happy to buy through them from a well-known merchant for a $30 savings...
yeah never buy anything coin related on amazon if you can find something 20% overpriced it's cheap there. As for apmex some people despise them but personally I always get exactly as described and often slightly better than described and the shipping is always lightning fast.
Yeah I'll shop around more. I wasted 600$ on a camera with a kit, that was never delivered or refunded, so I WILL NEVER USE EBAY. I have security cameras so I know it wasn't stolen. Never saw any notifications from the cameras, on the date it was allegedly delivered. There's a whole lot more to the story, but NEVER AGAIN..The seller in question also had a high review score and was even an "eBay Top Rated Seller" with all things seeming legitimate before hand.
