Certain people enjoy stirring up drama. Every forum attracts that type sooner or later.

I think it's more interesting to ask this: "if CoinTalk is so terrible, why are there so few posters over there complaining about it?"

No matter what your policies are, and no matter how even-handedly you enforce them, there will always be a few people who decide they've been Done Wrong, and will bad-mouth you every chance they get.

As for the virus/spam business -- I signed up here with a new email address, one that I've never used anywhere else, in 2010. I have every email I've received since that day. In that time, I have received ZERO spam messages to that address. ZERO.

I can't really speak to the virus/malware-in-ads issue, because as a Supporter I don't get the ads. Back before I signed up for that, there were a couple of episodes where really bad ads showed up. I was somewhat protected by using an iPad at the time, and Peter and the team were very attentive about getting it cleared up, although Google didn't make it an especially easy or quick job.

I guess this is as good a time as any to again say, "Thanks, Peter!"...

I notice that the ad things are tracking what you do on the internet in total so I have never received any "porno" ads. I think it was more of a case where the other poster was going to other sites he should not have been going to and that is the source of his naughty ads...

Doesn't work like that for adult ads.

It's only a few that have had a problem. Some of those are just ticked because the mods ask them to follow the rules.

Would you actually bash all of CU over the actions of a few? I hope you don't.

I recall some 'porno' ads posted in forums directly by representatives of that company that the mods had to delete often, but never ones that came here on their own.

I seem to recall a lot of them were 'banned' lately for a while directly by the ownership. Why didn't some one there mention that :)

So do I , we have many same members just different names. I am a member there with same ID and Avatar, and I have never been jumped due to actions here.

There are always miserable people who try and make others lives more miserable than their own so they won't feel so miserable. Never works.

How did you find this anti-CT forum?

I was a member of Collectors Universe about 15 years ago. I was also a member of the Collectors Society at the same time, and the reason I stopped participating on CU was because they were always putting down everyone who wasn't pro-PCGS or CU. They thought they were better than everyone else. You couldn't say anything negative about PCGS or CU unless you wanted to get banned. Does anyone remember when they banned Mark Feld twice?

I've had several members, here, ask me why I don't join CU. After reading all of the comments posted in the link that @ddddd posted, I can see that they haven't changed at all over there. Granted, we do get some unsavory characters, here, from time to time, and I complain about some of them. But, this is our community and shouldn't I have the right to complain "in my own house"? At least you won't see me getting banned for complaining. No thanks, guys! I'll just stay here.

It's not an anti CT forum. It's rare to even hear anyone bring up CT. Most of the ones that talk about CT got in trouble here and have a bone to pick.

Wow.. A Metal Detecting category! That's interesting!
And one for something called 'Stamps' :hilarious:

I think I like it more right here on CoinTalk!

It is a personal choice and after being here 10 years for me it is a good fit.
Yeah has there been issues at times of course...that happens everywhere not just here...that's why there is a iggy button.
There's a connection here that a lot of members share.....
And one other point the people here are very giving of their time as well give YN's coins to both spark and keep their interest in the hobby.
Yeah do we have faults of course we are human....but humans with hearts who do care about its members on many levels.
Spend ten years here you'll experence a lot and when placed on a scale it tips more to the positive side than the negative.

I'm a member of both - and posted in that thread.

The people over there are PCGS fan-boys posting in the PCGS-fan-boy site.

PCGS moderates their site with a very heavy hand - no criticism of PCGS is tolerated. It's their site, their rules, s'be'it.

In truth, CU had really gone into the dumpster, when Heather took over, she had to get people's attention by lowering the boom. I thought she went a little too far and stopped posting for a while. There was some cautious back & forth and the new rules made a little clearer.
    But-

CT has rules. EVERY site has rules. Follow them or don't let the door hit you on the way out!

You want to really get jumped and beaten out of the gang? Post a pro-Apple post on a Samsung board or vice versa.

I really hope that coin collecting as a hobby stays a big tent, with something for everybody and that includes message boards for all kinds of interests within the hobby.

I post here, CCF, CU and even Reddit. I'm a member at NCG (but that place is dead since the reorg). I'm part of three or four Yahoo! group mailing lists (yeah, those still exist).

I stay away from rec.collecting.coins (Usenet, now hosted on Google groups but mostly spam). 9 threads this year, three of which are clearly spam and two off topic...

I'm a member of two local coin clubs (could be 3, but I just can't seem to get into either of the other two that meet on the 3rd Thursday).

ANA, TNA, LSCC, CONECA, NI and something else - the membership cards are on a board downstairs...

As to your other point, yes, Philatelist just sounds obscene.

I'm a member here, CU and NGC. Agree that the NGC site is very sleepy. It's too bad because there are some very knowledgeable members on the site. I mostly stay in the background at CU. Personally, I like this site a lot. Good mix of members. I've always felt the Mods were fair. Not sure what the CU members did to get banned and I'm not really sure I care.

I lurk over there. I have seen some pretty good threads, but yeah I have noticed if you say bad things about PCGS they give you the boot. Makes sense it's their forum. Recently members made a big deal about one guy getting banned in particular. I was wondering if he was going to join here if he wasnt already a member.
