This sentence from his auction description does not even make grammatical sense: CONSIDERING WHAT I PAID FOR THIS SET, I CANNOT AFFORD TO AT LEAST MAKE BACK THE SILVER CONTENT OF THESE COINS . . .
AGAIN, YOU SHOULD THINK AND BID ON THESE AS YOU WOULD A ROLL OF 20 SILVER EAGLES. i wouldnt dream of bidding more than their spot value. and then i would promptly get rid of the slabs.
I like the toning! But then again, I don't really understand why people collect these things as coins... I'm mean they're supposed to be bullion! To me, a collectible coin is something that's been in circulation (unless it's a proof), and to find them in higher mint states is a real find in some cases. I think you'd be hard pressed to find samples of ASEs below MS-66 rather then vice-versa, and if you do it's probably a fake! lol But that's just my personal opinion.
Ok guys, His grammar sux but he is been honest. I lookt at his uther auctions and he some nice stuff has. Feetback is good two. Give him a break he's being beyond honest IMHO. clembo
OK, I have not lookt at his uther auctions, BUT I appreciate your sense of humor. Feetback or not. And he does seem to be honest about it. Kudos for that.
I've read this statement several times now. I know I'm not great at grammer myself but thought I could figure it out anyway. This would be a great statement on a test of any kind for a job application at a Nuclear Power Station. Anyone that understands this should never be hired there.
I worked at a couple of operating nuclear power stations back in the 80s. I guess it's a good thing I don't understand that statement.
I agree with clembo, atleast he is being honest, and not trying to cheat anyone. Sad he had to learn about self slabbers and all the hard way. Phoenix
I don't think this person is trying to scam anyone, of course the self slabbed MS-70 is nonsense, I do like the toning from what I can see. Maybe I'm just stupid but what's the problem here?
No he's not trying to scam anyone. The problem is not for the buyer but rather for the seller and even further the coin community as a whole. He is obvisouly a little bit bitter about the whole chain of events leading upto this sale. I imagine he probally paid a nice little premium on those eagles for that "MS70" grade thinking he was making a wise investment. Possibly to give to his kids or grandkids maybe? Then sure enough a couple of years later he checks on them only to learn he was suckered by some 2nd rate "certification" company. Now he is angry about the situation and may be less likely to persue the hobby further. He'll probaly rant about this situation to all of his friends and family and they too will be less likely to want to have anything to do with the hobby. Sorry I am starting to rant so I'll quit now. I think you all know where I am going with this.
I had never noticed that INB uses coinworld slabs...... in fact the empty INB slabs I used to have wern't coinworld slabs... Fake INB slabs perhaps? lol
I probally could have titled this thread a little better. Maybe something along the lines of, "We all pay for this expensive lesson" or "the problem with self slabbers" or something along those lines. I feel really sorry for this guy. I am thinking about buying his silver just to help him out a little, but at the same time there is always the old arguement that he should have educated himself before making his purchase. It's just a shame how far the ripples will be felt in the hobby/profession. Good dealers get stones thrown at them(not litterly) Less people interested=less paid for your coins when you sell, kids taking "grandpa's" collection for granted, less people actively involved etc. etc. The list can go on and on and on. You get the point. The effects of events like this just anger me. Some individual profits for the short term while we all pay in the long run.
Sounds like an honest seller. Too bad about those eagles. They are beutiful coins. One of the series that I collect
