hi had a bag of 2 1/2 gulden from around 1980 mixed in with a bunch of french francs1/2 francs and 1 francs from around 1988 and i took them to a metal merchant as they are supposed to be pure nickel. the metal merchant said that pure nickel coins dont exist and these were an alloy containing only 35% nickel with other elements such as cobalt etc. he showed me a readout on the testing machine which apparently confirmed this. looking on the internet the coins are often described as pure nickel so someone is not being accurate with the truth but who???
Let's see - one version is "someone says", and the other version is "scientific test shows". Obviously, we Luddites gotta go with "someone".

Well, I'll say this, if you look them up in Krause the 2 1/2 gulden and the franc coins composition says nickel - that's it. No alloy mentioned at all.
the scrap metal merchant didnt believe the kraus catalogue which i brought along and i didnt believe he really tested the coins, the value of money is based on faith isnt that right
