Hi everyone, I am new here. Checking out some of my old coins but I am not sure if I have something that is worth anything, because there is so much misinformation online. So I come here looking for some help on my coins. Please let me know if these are worth anything. I did notice my 1972 was a weird raised rim,and a lot of marks/scratches on it and the ear looks funny. I am not sure what happened to all the holes on the 1992, it appears to be a large date. I also have a 1982 with no e on Pluribus and 1984.
Spenders? I am not familiar with that term. Also I forgot to include the 1964 penny..is that any good?
Darn...I thought I had something good in there....so none of these not even the 1964 is worth anything? I am Canadian so when I found these american coins I thought I had some good finds. But then began to research and found alot of misinformation online and on youtube...Thanks for the response
Yes, stick around and you'll learn a lot You've already picked up that YouTube isn't the place to go. It does have some good videos on how coins are minted, but that's about it. As for this forum? We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two!
You forgot the copyright symbol on your "Farmers Insurance" quote. Just kidding. Must be good commercials for us to remember their tag line.
Many 1982 and newer cents are based on a Zinc core with a very thin copper plating. What happens many times is the zinc starts to corrode and all sorts of things happen to the surface. The coins tend to eat themselves over time. So if you see anything "odd" or "weird" with a 1982 or newer cent's surface you can mostly relate it to that.
I found a BUNCH of Canadian cents and thought the same thing. The good news is that "Coin Star" can't tell they're foreign.
Youtube is just about the worst place to learn about coins. There's a lot of useless information on it, especially those "Get rich with pocket change" videos. The only one making money on those sites is the person who posted it. Every time someone clicks on their site they make money and the viewer gets bad info.
I get so sick of "look for these valuable varieties in your pocket change..." and then they talk about a 16 D dime or 1913 nickel... as if anyone is going to be siftng thru the center console in their car and finding these coins in their change. I thinks it's just a click baitey/get rich quick dream they are trying to dupe their viewership with.
