The marks are actually doubled, and way deeper and wider then a quarter can do. I work in metal and the odd thing (to me) is that there is no scratches around the indentations
Notice the displaced metal around the indents. This is a characteristic of some type of impact damage. Whether that's from the reeding of another coin or something else really doesn't matter, because metal displacement like this can't occur during the minting process
It's good to know that you work in metal. Does that include coin metal? How many of the gazillion coins that are in circulation have you inspected to support your theory? Chris

Because it doesn't add up, and I have 5 more less dramatic but same shape imperfection 2016 cents from separate transactions
