found this interest and thought other might too. https://www.cnn.com/style/article/rjr-props-fake-money/index.html
I wonder what the old looking money you see on shows like NCIS, and Chicago PD and such is fakes? When they open a old box in the file room with 30 year old confiscated currency and such. But then again you usually only see the first bill in the stacks.
Interesting read. I always thought the top bill was real, and the rest were just blank paper. But, when a movie character flips through a stack, the notes need to resemble currency. abuckmaster- there are prop movie versions of old bills https://propmoviemoney.com/product-category/series/1900s-vintage-prop-money/
That’s an amazing story, i had a friend Who stayed at a time share in Vegas While he was there he found $22,000 In prop money, though he thought it to Be real at first, then upon further Examination found the words copy on Each bill, but with out that stamp, Who knows where it could end up !
It's funny they show Walter White and his wife from Breaking Bad in his storage unit. Some bills from the show are clearly real while often you can tell prop money is being used from looking at the portraits (typically in scenes involving bulk amounts). In the Better Call Saul spin off prequel, which takes place in about 2002 (at least in the second season, which is what I'm watching now), most of the $20 and $100 notes that are seen are old small face notes that look genuine. Rather comically, the producers have had a circa Series 1928 $20 note used multiple times. Other times the producers of a film are beyond lazy. The 2005 North Country film takes place in 1989 yet shows a Series 2004/2004A $20 note being used clear as day. One would think the cast and everyone else involved in the project would have taken notice; I can't imagine it would have been so hard to find a small face $20 note to properly use in its place.
This thread reminds me of one I started about movie money couple of years ago while watching "Once Upon A Time In The West" https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-money-shot.281249/
