I believe those are just Die Chips.. Not RPM's

  3. I didn't know there were RPM's on proof coins until a few days ago. I saw there was a 1968 S Proof Dime RPM, so I checked my dads 1968 proofs - the first two shots are of the 1968 S proof dime. At first I thought it might be a RPM but not now. Then I started looking at some of his other proof sets. The remaining pics are of one of his 1971 Proof set. These are of the penny and the nickel in the set.
The bottom loops definitely has a folded inner S and and a folded inner loop in the top loop of the penny. thre is also a little nub on the top of the 1. The nickel only has the inner loop on the bottom.
I haven't found any data on the 1971 S RPM penny but of course there is the DDO.
There is some MD on the motto of the penny.
Hope the pics are good enough - it is a real pita taking photos of proofs

  7. Its hard to tell in the pc microscope, but in my binocular microscope the S on the penny is 2-3 times taller than any of the date numbers.

  9. It is the S on the penny -If I could hold it to the side the S is is raised a lot higher than the 1971. pics 3,4, and 5 down

I think it is MD, as the late 60s,,early 70s in San Francisco seemed to have a lot of problems with MD, Here is a 69S which has similar shaping as yours I believe, Jim
