I was recently going through my dads old coin collection, He is gone sadly. I found an 1815 Half dollar. Looked into it and really want to know its worth. This coin looks to have gone through the ringer, Very neat for sure!
Definitely one of the toughest dates in the Capped Bust Half Dollar series. You're right - the example shown looks like it's had a hard/abusive life. Still a desirable date, but difficult to put a price on something in this damaged condition.
I still think despite the damage, someone will give $750 for it. Put it on eBay for $1100 or best offer and see what happens.
The 1815 is a very valuable coin. Too bad about the hole. Someone might go $1,000. A dealer I think half that.
