I've been known to throw them in rolls for the keeping, no doubt die deterioration. I like showing this photo because it is a coin that I put away years ago into a roll. recently found because of it's Mint state condition. It shows that ring around the coin that you are referring to.
@Veston, based on what you posed & the pic you provided, the response you received from paddy & Picken were accurate & appropriate. However, since you posed such a superficial & extremely limited pic & question, you didn't get an optimal response from members. Looks like it might be a "close AM", in which case you need to know the year & research for the years in which the close AM is significant. If you had posted a pic of the entire cent (both sides), perhaps a member would have suggested this or found another issue related to date, etc. By narrowing your pic to such a specific section of the coin, with no date, you severely limit the possible responses. You should also be as specific as possible about what you think you see. Most of our members look at many threads daily & generally will not take the extra time to try to figure out what the poster is asking for. You want to make it as easy as possible to answer your query. Just sayin'...
What's referred to as a vise job. Take two coins, place them together and squeeze them hard enough until the impression of one coin is indented onto the other. It's easy to spot by looking at the reverse lettering of UNITED right below E PLURIBUS UNUM.
@Marco 1949 ...your question about the nickel was answered, but... You should remember etiquette and start your own thread instead of hijacking someone elses. You will get a better response from members and avoid confusion...Spark
