This coin was a after market unsold lot purchase. Its TPG as MS-64 AV 2 Doppie 1630 Milan Mint King Philip IV of Spain (Milan was under Spanish rule, after Karl V crushed the French Army of francois I at pavia on the 15th of Feb. 1525) before that time it was under French rule since 1500, when it was annexed by Louis XII. Milan would stay under Spain until 1711 when it passed on to Habsburg rulers.
Italian States/Milan FR#724, 1630, .910 gold, my 2003 Krause world coin catalog values only go to XF grade-$4,000 is yours the (ND) no date version or the 1630 version ? Very cool looking coin by the way.
Thanks guys Actually, its a 1630, date is very weakly struck. Spain was a super power back in 1630, with tons of gold, silver from their Colonial Empire. They also fielded the best trained army and where usually victorious on the battlefield. They sucked big time in their coin minting skills. These gold coins where badly struck (hammered). Most European nations now had resortedto modern milled (machined) coinage. Yeah, I was also surprised to see this did not sell, always good to check for unsold lots, sometimes you can reap a reward.
