thanks and one more! thanks again Hi thanks but can you explain how to compute this figures. I'm just new in this stuff .. thanks i hope you could help and another more how about this other one coin the
According to the Red Book the 1890 half eagle ($5 gold coin) was only minted at Philadelphia (88 proofs and 4,238 business strikes) and Carson City (53,800 business strikes.) Since yours appears to have an "S" (San Francisco) mint mark, it may not be genuine. Variety 2 Half Eagles, minted from 1866-1908, are 8.359g of .900 gold, with an actual gold weight of .24187 oz. and a diameter of 21.6mm. Bullion value is ~$225 and my Red Book edition is too old to put any reliance on its valuations.
My suggestion is since it was a gift from your grandma, just keep it as a momento of her and forget about it's possible value. As a grandpa myself, when I give a coin or coins to anyone, I do it with hopes that they will always have that as a momento of me. I'm old so I think like that.
