I am subscribing to the two-roll sets that the Mint sells, four times a year one from the Philadelphia Mint the other from the Denver Mint. I got in on this kind of late so I had to play catch-up. My first two rolls were the George Washington rolls. I bought them directly from the Mint. The second two rolls John Adams I bought on ebay. The picture had the white boxes with them in it. They were never opened. The seller had 100% positive feedback. Here's my question: Both the George Washington rolls one side had the obverse, George Washington showing, and the other showed the Statue of Liberty. Both of the rolls that I bought on ebay had the John Adams obverse showing on both sides of the roll. Does that happen from time to time or should I be concerned that these were tampered with? Both of the John Adams rolls had the official Mint wrapper on them too. Am I worrying over nothing? Thanks... still new to the numismatic hobby.
The coins are randomly dropped into tubes feeding the shotgun rolls, so statistically half the rolls witll have one head and one tail showing, one quarter will have two heads, and one quarter will have two tails.
The mint is kind of high on new coins. You can pick up specific presidents at the bank for face value ($25.00) that are uncirculated. I simply can't justify spending $36 on $25 worth of product... but thats just me. Welcome to the forum
bank roll vs mint roll soon the mint roll gonna trade at the same price with the bank roll. 100% no premium attached on mint roll. if you like design and color of those mint rolls. prez roll from bank is also very attractive.
well to be honest, i am having the hardest time finding any rolls of pres. dollars. Most of the banks i go to have none, and never know if they are getting any. Its turning out to be very frustrating.
Banks must request Prez dollars from the Fed to get them. Ask your bank manager to order some. There is a short window of opportunity for each Prez dollar (two weeks before and after date of release, I think).
The $35.95 you are talking about for the presidential dollar rolls from the mint are collector rolls, not meant to be spent. You can spend them, but I wouldn't. Otherwise just get the bank rolls.
I think the Mint roll will always trade for at least a little more than the bank rolls because they have one advantage over the bank rolls, you can tell what mintmark is in the roll without opening it.
the problem i have with the presidential dollars is that they are so heavily marked when you get them. I have yet to find a clean coin from opening a roll.
