Can anyone tell me if this is an error coin? I'm looking at Washington's pony tail.

    Thanks,

    Leyna

From the photo, there doesn’t appear to be a Mint error on this coin.
If there is, it would be a minor variety. However, even if the error is drastic, it would still only be worth more than face value to a select few - because of the severe PMD (post-mint damage).
If you are planning to keep it, then please do post higher resolution pictures, from multiple angles. If there is a mint error on this coin, someone will gladly point it out for you.
    Good luck!

Damaged. The part circular scrape is from a coin rolling machine.

Welcome to CT. That quarter is badly damaged and we call that PMD, Post Mint Damage, meaning it happened after it left the mint. Its only value is face value, 25¢. Spend it.

@Leyna Fox ...You are a fairly new member, 5 months or so, but you really should have known just by looking at that coin that it was damaged and not an error from the Mint.

However, you may run across some more New Mexico quarters, and when you do, go to doubleddie.com and research the listings there. Both New Mexico P and D mint marks have minor doubling issues listed. The obverse has a doubled ear lobe, while the reverse has doubling primarily with the second ray of the Zia Sun symbol. They aren't very valuable, but they are neat to find.

Something to keep in mind...on your original posted coin in this thread, if you check it for doubling and find some on it, the damage totally negates any value it might have had.

But don't get discouraged, keep looking and learning and having fun! The hunt is the best part.

    Spark
