Recently @Bing generously offered several of his coins up for auction. He collects similarly as I do (Roman Republics), so much of his auction was Imperials. HOWEVER, I was able to snare a coin / type that I do no have: A SATYR ! I wanted to capture a cool coin from Bing, just to have one from him! I know I am posting before I receive, but it is too cool to sit on, and Bing and I will be meeting sometime soon (special hand delivery!) ISLAND OFF THRACE THASOS AR Trihemiobol OBVERSE: Satyr running left in three-quarter view, holding kylix REVERSE: ΘΑΣ − ΙΩΝ Amphora Struck at Thasos, 411-350BC 0.69g, 12 mm SNGCop 1030 Please post any SATYR's or any of your Bing Auction #1 coins!
Coingrats on the saweet Satyr coin! I'm a fan of the type as well (though still have yet to score one of the iconic types with amphora rev). I've got a couple of these nasty little dudes, one with nymph and one with his aulos in his hand
All of those are great looking coins! Thanks for sharing. I myself do not have a Satyr or a @Bing coin so I will just enjoy looking at yours haha.
You ancient guys and gals sure have some sweet looking coins! I would gladly add every one posted to my collection.
Great detail for such a tiny coin ! I'll bet that satyr could put down that whole amphora of wine on the reverse .
Great pick up, Bing and yourself certainly have an eye for quality .Thasos AR Drachm, circa 500 BC Copenhagen 1014-16, 3.73gm.
Sweet new coin! I was able to walk away with one Alexandrian tet from @Bing Auction #1: AURELIAN Tetradrahm OBVERSE: AUT K L D AURHLIANOC CEB, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right REVERSE: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, wreath in beak, D/L (year 4) left, star right Struck at Alexandria, Egypt, 29 Aug 272 - 28 Aug 273 A.D. 7.73g, 21mm Dattari (Savio) 5470-1; Milne 4381-2; Emmett 3922
Great choice. I want an ex Bing and was tempted by that Thasos satyr, but already have one of them. Eagerly awaiting the next sale!
My next auction should be in a week or so. If those on my "mailing" list wish not to participate, just let me know. I'm glad some of my coins have made it to happy homes and caretakers.
