Nail polish from a long time ago?
I used to do that to coins and matchbox cars.

Just a guess but thatz all we can do as we weren't there to do it.

    it's all damage..
It is not a Mint Error

Saltwater affects silver coins such as yours.
Some strange chemical reaction. I have detected many silver coins that look like dark crud. It's not copper.

Your silver dime tumbled in a brackish or saltwater environment. That's what it looks like after a long time in those conditions.

    ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Look at the corrosion on that coin. You've been posting on here for a little while and have been given some great links that show how coins and dies are made, identifying errors, etc.

I don't know what's worse, you actually thinking this could be a mint error or your continuing to question the responses. Maybe it's time to consider another hobby

One validating remark and this goes up on ebay for a grand. Anyone remember my post about 'crushfresh" on Listia and his "RARE" forging error? Seems like that is where this is going.

We all love coins. That one may have been through a fire. Won’t ever be collectible.
