Hi folks, I'm fairly new to copper, and am still learning everything the hard way. The coin below is interesting. Inside, in normal lighting, there is no toning to see. I took it outside a few weeks ago to photograph it in the bright sunshine. I took the photo below. You can see there is some attractive rainbow pixeling. At first, I thought it was the camera. But when I looked closer, I was surprised to see that it really is on the coin. Any idea what it is? Natural? Left over from some kind of cleaning??? It really has me stumped. My guess is that it took a very bright, point-source light (i.e., the sun) to penetrate the dark toning and reveal the colors hidden below. That's a very nice coin by the way.
Lots of character on that lady. :thumb: The toning probably occurred because of the environment it was stored in.
