What do you grade it? The above are natural light on a window sill, the first set below is under the lamps which show the nice slightly glossy brown character a little better. Thanks in advance.
Hi, Paddy, would you really want to dip that coin? I don't see a lot of organic material on there beside a little darkness round the IGWT letters. By the second set of photos it doesn't seem to be a dull coin at all. What would you be looking to improve? I know nothing about how copper reacts to these things, so... honest question!
Yeah I would and have just as I posted to several woodies,a quick dip ,and some verdicare let it sit and air dry .
Low MS like 62 maybe 63. San Francisco mint produced some poor strikes during this time. Problem is that TPGs don't like woodys so I could see them giving it an AU58.
Funny, the reason I posted this is I find it a very tough coin to pin down so it’s kind of nice to see grades are all over the place as well. My first reaction to it was MS62 BN when I picked it up, it was in a flip labeled XF45 (coins are just one small part of this shop and the grades are often wrong, for example I bought this there at MS60 and it came back 63, etc.) When I got home I thought I saw wear on the wheat stalks but it’s tough with the woodgrain- the fields, rim, etc. look uncirculated to me. I settled on AU as my final grade but that’s really just a guess. Lincolns are tough. It’s a $140 coin in 62, I’d love to see where they would grade it for educational purposes. I did only pay $2 so if it comes back low I guess it wouldn’t be that big a loss.
Looks like die wear on the wheat stalk. Die wear wont usually knock an MS coin out of MS grades. Like I said, I have no problem with this coin at 62 or 63.
