Hey guys, I know that it is difficult to grade a coin by photos, but what is your opinion about this one? Its price was 750 dollars and I am not sure if I should take the coin or sent it back to the dealer. Greetings from Europe Alex
$750 is underpriced according to my guide. I would have to get it authenticated first. If it's real and AU/MS it's worth $1000 so that price seems suspicious. There's $640 of gold there, so if it's real, there's no risk at all.
assuming it's real, I have some concerns about the obv rim at stars 8/9, rim looks flattened in that area and some ? solder or other disturbance inside the rim.
Okay, thank you! But which grade would you give to it? In Europe most coins are raw, so this is not a hint for hidden problems.
I don't think it would get a straight grade at a TPG due to the obv rim problems. Ignoring that I think MS62 would be about right. And, comparing it to graded examples sold at auction, I'm not certain that it's genuine.
Hey Guys, the point is that there are almost no ''serious'' offers for gradet coins in Europe. Most Dealers want to use the slab to sell a MS 61 or MS 62 ,,average'' piece for a very high price. I bought this one from a dealer I made good experiences with. He is the ''one man numismatic departure'' of a large german buillon trader. So neither the rawness, nor the price are as suspicious as it would be in the US. On Top of that the 1911 Indian in one of the most frequent years. Concerning the Rim you are right. It has a small dammage. Would this already give a details grade or just a 61/62? Are there any hints for hidden defects on my realstic pictures? Is there a large risk for a fake coin? Thank you very much guys!
From what I can tell in your pictures, I like the coin. Looks genuine to me. Unfortunately, the rim issues from 11:00 to 1:00 would keep it from receiving a grade. How's the luster on the coin? Looks pretty good from the photos and the devices have minimal contact marks. There's just that one ding on the cheek. Fields look pretty good too.
Hi Alex. I think you have a beautiful gold eagle there. I recently acquired this one and I thought maybe a photo would give you something to compare yours to. This one is graded MS-62 and I believe yours is a better strike. That rim ding wouldn’t bother me at all but it may affect the grade and marketability of the coin. Some folks get pretty fussy about things like that. Welcome to CT.
I didn't think to post an Indian in similar grade. Here's one of my MS62's. 1912 by JPeace$ posted Apr 1, 2018 at 1:27 AM 1912 reverse by JPeace$ posted Apr 1, 2018 at 1:27 AM
Looks like a decent MS-61, maybe a '62 if the rim issue (which looks pretty minor in the pics) doesn't keep it from a straight-grade.
