Toning on Low Grade Bust Half.

Been looking at my coin here and was wondering why the toning is pulled back from around Liberty's profile, inside the loops of the date, etc. Why? And is this indicative of a problem coin? It does hurt the eye appeal IMO. Thanks!

That's often a sign of a coin cleaned by wiping.
Not dipped; not abrasively.

 

Looks kinda like a Circ Cam.

 

Probably retained from an old cleaning.

 

Looks like there was crud buildup around the devices which protected the surfaces from heavy oxidation. When the coin was dipped in acetone, the crud fell away, revealing the lighter-toned areas. I like it, and there should be no effect on the value.
