I saw the “a” in O-105a and knew there must be die cracks on this coin - see link below: http://www.maibockaddict.com/1811-o-105-r2-small-8-capped-bust-half-dollar.shtml
I know noting really about these coins but I see no wear on the rim or stars acouple of scratches but hell it's 200+ years old MS62?
Those on the reverse are die cracks?!? Then that's a good thing, isn't it!! I learn something new every day!!
Reverse die cracks indicative of O-105a, and also there are metal flow lines transferred from the die between UNITED and rim. This is all good stuff! Like this coin! Obverse scratches, which do not appear to be characteristic of normal circulation at bust, could jeopardize straight grade. If straight grade, I guess AU 50.
If the staples are positioned in the top and sides parallel to and near the edges of the 2x2, there is less risk of scratches on the coin. When the 2x2 flip is placed in or taken out of the storage box, the staples do not move across the coin surface. When multiple 2x2s are held in hand, the staples have less risk of scratches if located near the 2x2 edges. I have noticed far too much damage to coins caused by staples in cheap conventional flips in dealer boxes!
Yes. It’s graffiti. And it would distract me every time I look at the coin. I apologize for my bluntness. Very pretty coin otherwise.
