I dunno. Not sure if I can blame the seller. In other fields, it may make perfect sense to show an image of a complete specimen alongside your less-than-perfect one.

Certainly, the seller is inept. But I doubt he's a complete crook. (maybe just a little bit crooked ;))

Odd that they havn't sold anything since July 07 and now they have 3 items.

Wouldn't be a bad idea if you could make out the other photos!

What's so odd about that? I've had an account since 02/15/05 and only sell stuff maybe once a year. Though, I'm starting to sell stuff a lot.

    Not everyone loves the bay.

Ouch from the blurry pictures it looks like that coin is worth about 10 bucks and its already up to 102.00 I guess people aren't reading before they bid.

Its not like he hide the fact in small print. It says it right in the item description. You gotta blame the buyers too

    YES I CAN.

I figure he's new at the ripoff game (at least on ebay) so I sent him this message. Hope I get an incrimintating reply.

"I like the way you put the "first two pictures are not actual coin" at the end of the description.
Cool dude some sucker is already falling for it."

    Let's just see.

Hmmmmm. I wouldn't want to be that seller when the buyer receives his coin. A cheap lawyer could rip that sentence to shreads.

Well at least he posted the letter & replies, but did not cancel the bids:
Q: I like the way you put the "first two pictures are not actual coin" at the end of the description. Cool dude some sucker is already falling for it. Feb-17-08
A: I had no intention of trying to mislead anyone I only wanted to show what kind of coin I have althought not in as great shape as the pictures, details are still visible on my coin.
Q: Please cancel my bid. Two ebay members have pointed out that the photo is not the one that you are selling and you do show a clear picture of the coin I would be getting. Misleading buyers is against ebay policy and typically results in delisting when reported. Feb-17-08
A: I am sorry about the misunderstanding but I did specify that the pictures were not of the coin I am selling althought it is same coin not as good shape as picture but in fair condition.

Unless this is a hijacked account, I'm going to say that the seller is legit and didn't know better. Probably best to just send him a message that his posting had red flags for fraud.

Maybe even send him a link to a site/thread that could help him take better pics/scans of the coin.

    Tough call Gatzdon.

He did reply to my message and include it in the auction. Surely not something I'm used to seeing.
On the other hand he does know it's a trime - course he could have looked that up as well.

Kinda 50/50 so maybe we should invite him over to Cointalk to take a look.
    What's everyone else think?

although he did not post mine, he did reply to my question.....got the same answer as you Clembo.

This auction is the buyers problem, as seller has stated in the very short description "not the coin I am selling". I figure he's just new and will learn the hard way.

Here, I don't think I can totally blame the seller. If the bidders can't read the fine print, then I don't feel that sorry for them. That is, unless they were trying to take a gamble, but from what I can make out of the second set of pics, the coin isn't worth $102.

    Phoenix

    Jack and Phoenix,

It is a "buyer beware" auction no doubt. He did state the "facts" and did reply to our questions but in the same token doesn't that kind of tip him off.

Not my problem fortunately but of course I wouldn't have bid over melt for this coin which ain't much in a trime even at $100 per ounce.

I'm glad to see he has no other auctions listed but will keep an eye open.

yah, I dunno.. I dont think I would blame him. I think if there's any buyers that buy something just by looking at the picture.... they should be punished..
honestly, how many peopla here act like that???
"oooeeee, dang thats a sharp looking coin, gotta bid before I read the rest"

No ones that daft at least I hope not
