same here. a positve feedback is left when i am happy with buying or selling my item. It doesnt matter to me if there were a bumb or 2 in the road to get there. In this case the seller, right or wrong, admited he made a mistake. Hobo takes the sellers word for it. End of story. If Hobo is happy to get his money back, i would leave a positive feedback. I might still be disapointed that i didnt cherrypick the coin, but every effort was made to rectify a probelm. That is deserving positive feedback in my book.

    Agreed.

Anyone can make a mistake. The key is how they follow up. If the seller does a good job of "service after the sale", they deserve a positive feedback. In many ways they are MORE exceptional and thus MORE deserving of positive feedback.

I avoid the word "always" on this topic.

I will say a good seller should leave good feedback based solely upon the buyer's performance. Usually, that means prompt payment, accurate correspondence, courtesy and nothing else.

A seller should NEVER hold buyer's positive feedback hostage. It happens frequently. But not always !

It's been my experience that sellers hold FB hostage at an increasing rate lately. I understand why this is taking place; if I were a seller (which I have not been since 2005) I would consider this also, at least on a case by case basis.

I would estimate that 75% of sellers' feedback was not received until after I left it as a buyer.

Sellers who explicitly call this out warrant extra caution from me when checking a listing, but I don't dismiss them out of hand. I will also look at their "feedback left for others" to confirm that it's actually left.

The only "positive" fix would be to make sure the buyer received the item they purchased. This was not a smooth transaction. I think this transaction deserves no feedback, positive or otherwise.

Funny you mention this. I was reading the ebay feedback forums (BTW, that's a rough area!) and a seller mentioned that he will leave neg feedback if a buyer gives him lower than a "5" star rating. The sellers there say they can tell who did it and when they dinged them. Is a new "hostage" fad starting? LOL.

Let this be another example of why people should use one eBay ID for selling and one for buying.

Having a negative feedback does not affect a buyer the way it affects a seller. If you use an ID solely for buying, you won't worry about leaving negative feedback.

Although I believe that if the seller offered a full refund in this case (including for the shipping charges), then I think the seller deserves a positive feedback. He did more than most ebay sellers would do to make the OP whole again.

I stand corrected: strike the words "will always" and insert the word should.

this is more what I was thinking... I would judge whether or not to give a positive on the follow-up after the mistake. Let's face it... we all make mistakes and I am more likely to give the benefit of doubt vs. condemnation.

I stand corrected again. Over half of the ebay sellers have something to hide.:smile

    I'm only kidding DJ

I know a lot of the reason why sellers wait to give their feedback but those reason don't make it right to hold a possible neg. feedback over a buyer. If the buyer pays for the item that he or she bids on as the seller has instructed then the seller has the obligation and SHOULD give their feedback at that time and not wait. Inturn the buyer has the same obliation to contact the seller if there is a problem with the item and try to resolve the problem before they give their feedback.

What I was trying to say is that there are a lot of sellers out there that will give their feedback first and those are the ones that will most likey not try to rip you off.

As a seller, the only way I can rate the seller is if they pay on time. That's IT. How can I rate a seller by whether they return an item or not?

When I receive a timely payment from a buyer, I pack the item up and take it to the post office. When I come back, I immediately give the buyer positive feedback. The buyer did what he/she was supposed to do.

Now if they don't receive item, don't like item, etc. that's another issue and it's too bad there isn't another rating for that. Because you can only rate them as a BUYER and not as a satisfied customer. If they think your thing-a-ma-jig is sub-standard and want a refund, then you slap then with a neg?????

I agree. I think that a buyer should alway get a positive feedback if they pay on time or as the seller has instructed. Giving a buyer a neg feedback because they gave the seller a neg. is wrong. The seller can argue that the buyer did not read to auction or the buyer got what they paid for is bull. It all come down to customer satisfation make it right or suffer the neg feedback.

Fully agree there. My personal policy as a seller is to leave positive feedback as soon as the buyer pays, if they do so as instructed, in the amount the won the auction for plus the posted shipping, and in a reasonable amount of time. As a buyer I leave a positive as soon as I receive the item if I'm satisfied with it (I'd never punish a seller because I had buyer's remorse, but if it's not the item I bid on, in exactly the stated condition, or if it doesn't show up in a reasonable amount of time, no positive. I'll give them a chance to make things right and if they do at that point, will give neutral, if they fail a second time I give a negative).

OR, perhaps you do a good job taking pictures, communicate with the seller/buyer, put fairness and integrity into what you do and the way you do it, and avoid scam tactics such as restocking fees, photoshopped pictures and outrageous shipping charges and describe your items honestly?

    giving feedback

As a seller, I almost always provide positive feedback to the buyer after I have payment and I ship the item as a sign of good faith to the buyer. I have yet to have a problem with this. I say almost always as I sometimes am not able to get around to it for a few days after my trip to the PO. I do see some sellers state that they will leave positive feedback after positive feedback is left for them. This is the wrong approach

As a buyer, I will and have left negative when needed. It just floors me when people leave a positive feedback yet state in the text of the feedback they were not happy (insert names of MS70 coin sellers here)
