Need help with Roman Coin?

    the coin is greek in style, not roman, of a type minted prior to 200 bc. that's all i'm prepared to say without much larger, better photos. also, please provide measurements in mm, and weight in grams if you can.

    coins of this type are rather rare and expensive. do you know where your family member came by the coin? was it purchased while on vacation, or was your relative a collector? to be honest, at this point, i'm leaning towards counterfeit.

    It is in the style of a tetradrachm of Syracuse, from the 4th century BC. Again, though, these coins are very valuable and constantly faked.

    As said above, this is in the style of Greek Syracuse Sicily, during the time of Dionysios I c405-400 BC. AR Dekadrachm. Charioteer driving galloping quadriga left, holding kentron; Nike above crowning charioteer; armor & spear in ex / Wreathed head of Arethusa left, four dolphins round.

    whether it is authentic I wouldnt venture a guess, here is an example:

    All dekadrachm specimens on coinarchives are in the neighborhood of 40g
