1980 cent obverse question...

    This area shown has a "clean" cut with some erosion below it. Could this be something other than PMD? 1980fulobv.jpg 1980crop.jpg 1980fullrev.jpg

    I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Where is the clean cut? Where is the erosion? Is the semicircle your addition to highlight the area?

    Thank you Chris for the questions. The "clean" cut is the area between the normal color of the coin and the erosion. I cleaned the area with acetone and added arrows to show the separation. 1980croparrow.jpg No, the semi circle is not an addition to the coin, it's what the coin looks like.

    Thanks for the clarification! Since you said that the semicircular mark was already on the coin, does the area between it and the rim appear to be recessed? If so, I can only conclude that it is some form of PMD. What may have caused it, I don't know.
