Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Proof Half Dollar Set, My Kenndy has a mint error NGC saw the pictures and said, Send them in under mint error, there is a die mark off the eagles left knee I got 4 in a row that had the mark. Please respond with any thoughts thank you.
Problem is there are 70k shipped just like that error and only 30K real labels after the fix. Thus, the later buyers have the advantage. How dumb to make a mistake like that, I have 5 too, worthless
Did they fix them? I thought they all had the error and if you wanted you could request the correct sleeve. To have an error set WITH a corrected sleeve, hmmmmm.
I think they did fix them for the last 30k and if you have an error one you can request the right now
tried on line to get replacement and was told i would have to return item and reorder ,might have better luck on telephone
Like written above, I read that the last 30K went out or are going out printed correctly, Obviously when they caught it they back ordered and halted shipments. Thus, the last 30K will be correct, they have the anomaly, not us.
I am surprised the coin collectors here are not complaining about the stars above the eagle, why is it that that row of 9 stars is NOT in conformation with or without the lines ? It looks like a child made that part of the die. There is NO pattern to it .
Actually, there is. There are 16 rays and 9 stars, so geometrically they can't align. The center star and the space between ray 8 and 9 are aligned, and there is symmetry about this point to the right and left of center. It makes for a somewhat cluttered visual, I'll grant you that.
I got the proof dollar - shipped very quickly - it is so beautiful and profound in it's own way that I put in an order for the five ounce. Heirlooms! haha. I like to think that when I'm gone my progeny will enjoy finding "neat stuff" under the proverbial bed. Along with the hall of fame coin what could be better to be minted with a curved surface. I love the footprint.
I received my 1 oz. Proof this week. It is a cool design. The one thing that did irritate me is that the plastic holder fit so snuggly in the mint insert that I had to dig the coin out. I wish they would either design the clam shell insert to properly hold the coin OR go back to having a "ribbon" under the plastic holder so you can easily remove the coin from the packaging. It's the same story with the Proof Silver Eagles. We pay quite a premium for the coin, a little packaging consideration would be appreciated. Okay, sorry. RANT OVER.
I can't remember which CT member was invited to join a committee that got to interact with the US Mint, but he started a thread a while ago and was asking for feedback he could share with the mint. This issue is what I shared with him. I hope the Mint listens. The little clam shell cases are kind of cheap, but overall not bad. It's those plastic molded capsule holders that need to be rethought.
I agree with you; I've found that a butter knife is the best way to get it out but you need to be quite careful.
Not sure if I am the person you were thinking of... I was involved several years ago in a one-day event where the mint was taking feedback from people. It was run by one of the local opinion services, and before I went in (they don't give you details of what they want) I asked here for suggestions if I was able to make any comments. Sadly, they really didn't have a huge open forum, but rather were asking specific questions, mostly about their email messaging. It was only a one-time thing though....so JPeace may have been referring to someone else.
I received my Apollo 11 proof silver dollar a week or so ago and I have to admit that this is one of the better commemorative designs that the mint has come up with for quite a while. Plus, the usually forgotten Gemini program finally gets some well-deserved press. My only complaints are that I had to pry it out of the little box with considerable effort to see the reverse and it's probably the most frustrating coin I've ever photographed due to the convex and concave surfaces. The light just bounces around. Boing boing boing. Despite those quibbles, this one is an overall success. ' It's also the only coin I've bought so far in 2019.
