This section is for those interested in collecting Aussie coins.Which Aussie coin catalogue(s) do you use? I am familiar with Rennicks & MacDonald. Is anyone familiar with Ian Pitt's book, which also lists notes & the Aussie Traders' Tokens?

Aidan, Ian Pitts book is 'The Renniks'. He was the editor from somewhere in the 199?s up until the last edition, ie 20th ed in 2002. There was a new edition published late last year, the new editor being Eddie J Cummings of Edlins, Canberra. Apparently Ian Pitt still contributes to the token section, and hes still the distributor so there is still the strong connection. Content wise, there is 30+ pages on tokens, and this hasnt really changed over the last few eds.

    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Steve

    You got it

The McDonalds and Renniks are the reference books you need to be educated if you are going to collect our coins from down under.

If you want to spend the money Many americans use Krause but all the info you need is in the two previously mentioned books.
HOWEVER remember that the prices listed in these books are in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS so if you don't do the conversions you will overpay in American dollars or Kiwi dollars (love NZ lived there for 2 years).
I am adding a conversion site to this post for your use and a link to the Australian Coin & bank note forum.

Which Aussie coins are you collecting - I am collecting the decimal 50C & $1 coins and bullion coins

Started out with the Aussie 50c and $1 coins, but Im trying to collect all the decimals now. I rarely touch NCLT, and the only bullion I have was recd as a gift. After looking at the traders tokens, I decided to have a bit of a look at some NZ stuff. Im working on the 1/2d and half crowns, both beautiful coins. I intend to get into the circulating coins of the Oceanic nations as well eventually.

I dont mind collecting books either.

Sgp994,one of the most interesting countries that I do collect is the coins of the New Hebrides.Although
they were issued by the French, they belong in a collection of British Commonwealth coins,as the New
Hebrides became independent in 1980 as Vanuatu.
There are coins dated 1982 with the New Hebrides designs. These are a very interesting provisional issue,as the New Hebrides Francs remained in circulation until 1983,when the New Hebrides Francs
were withdrawn & replaced by the Vatu, which is the only British Commonwealth currency that has no
    subdivisions.

Steve, did you know that the New Hebrides Franc was entirely a paper currency until the issue of the 1966 100 Francs crown? Krause lists the date 1979 for the 100 Francs, but I have never seen that date.
As to the 1982 provisional coins,I have got the 1 Franc & the 5 Francs. Can you check if there were 10,20,& 50 Francs in 1982? I know that I am missing
the 1982 2 Francs. The New Hebrides Franc was nominally divided into 100 Centimes, but the smallest
    coin was 1 Franc.

New Hebrides coins are very easy to recognise. They
    are inscribed 'NOUVELLE HEBRIDES'.
