I have just purchased a 1 gram silver koala coin from a local coin shop. After trying to look it up online there is no record of this every being produced. It looks like it is a copy of the 2012 proof 1 kilo $30 coin. The only difference is it’s says 1 gram 999 silver on back. Does anybody know anything about a coin like this. A test piece maybe?
That’s what I originally thought but the coin looks like a perfect $30 copy. If it was a 3rd part I would have though it would have had some name or symbol for it being a copy. I do know that some companies have made coins to send to the mints to show them what they can do. Thanks for the replies
1 gram silver pieces are novelty items, come in hundreds of designs, many are made in China, none are worth the inflated prices/premiums - you're better off sticking to the standard 1 troy ounce bars and rounds (and heavier weights) from the major mints - the premiums are more reasonable If you must have 1 gram silver, consider the Valcambi Combi-Bar, 100 grams of connected but divisible mini bars:
