Found this 1911 p penny with few errors.. looks like damage but the X on front and back are raised metal and there's pitting on the coin before it was stamped.. what do you guys think..?
This is not a Mint error. The raised metal on both X'es has been displaced from the deep gouges next to each one. Chris
Someone took a very sharp blade and cut into the copper at an angle to make an X.. That technique makes it appear raised.
I agree about the X's being damage from a cut. But your coin also has Lamination errors on the reverse. Some metal looks like it has flaked away and left the pitting.
