Guys, Some of you know I work in a public library. Anyway, a huge donation was made to our library this week and one of my coworkers found something interesting at the bottom of one of the boxes: Sorry for the blurry picture. My scanner isn't the best. The token at the top center is dated 1789 and says, "George Washington President of the United States." The stamps are all dated in the 1940s, with the exception of the one in the lower right, which has a date of 1960. The entire assembly seems as though it can be taken apart. Any ideas on what it is or what it might be worth?
I don't know what the plaque is all about or whether the medallion on the top middle is worth anything, but unfortunately the stamps are very, very common and are worth face value. In fact, you can find them for less than face on the Internet if you buy them in bulk. Once again, the whole is probably worth much more than the parts! Nice looking item though!
I do recognize the medal, but it is not listed in 'So-Called Dollars.' Very common piece, I believe from the 1950's. Actually since Pocket Change says that the stamps are very common, the case may be the most valuable part of the set. Still, very attractive.
If you take pics of just the token (both sides) I could likely id it and provide a ballpark value for you. Nice looking display.
