Hi all, I have a website called www.mycoinpictures.com. The intent obviously is to house pictures of coins. I am looking for folks to post their pictures of coins for all to enjoy. The intent is that anybody can post pictures of coins and other numismatic material and that anybody can then view that material. If someone wants to download a picture for their own website, so be it. The intent is too spread knowledge. With that in mind, I am not looking for people to post their copyrighted material. The software is photopost and is quite easy to use. You can enter a description of the coin and any other misc information. Also, if you are a coin dealer/website owner, there is a place to put in your information in your profile so that others can see who is posting the info. One other feature of the software is that you can create your own personal album. It may be a nice way to keep pictures of your collection elsewhere. I am interested in your thoughts. Thanks
I added several Asian countries. If you have some pictures, I would love to have them included. Thanks
I have tried to upload a pic a few times and although it says I have successfully uploaded, I don't see it. Does it need to be approved first?
Yes, I missed one of the security settings so it was only showing up under admin so I saw it all the time. It should now show up for everybody Thanks
Yes, they must be approved Hi, yes, all photos must be approved before they are public. This is to prevent spam, porn, etc. I looked for photos though and I did not see any in the approval queue. what were you trying to load? can you try again? Sorry
Nice thought but there are already numerous similar sites. The problem with any such site is unless you constantly advertise it, people will niever find it again. There are virtually billions of web sites so how would someone in a few weeks find this one. Now if your giving away prizes, that would be an insentive to keep going back there. As an example of one of the many sites where you can post your coins for all to look at is the SAMSUNG web site. And if you post photos there, you could win a free Samsung camera. They give out 4 a Month, every month. Possibly not the best camera in the world but it's free and you can make an album of your coins for the entire world to see. www.SOAPhoto.com This web site would be more accessaable to everyone and more popular than an individuals web site. Also, it is not restricted to coins. For example you could post a series of photos of Aleins invading Earth. Be the first.
True but... You are correct in that there are many phote web sites. I looked around and could not find one dedicated to just coins or numismatic material where any user could upload his/her own pictuers, so I thought, what the heck, give it a try. In terms of how would people find the site? If you are just looking for coin pictures, my site ranks well in google for several coin types and not so sell for others. I am sure it will get bette. So if you are looking for just coin pictures, finding the site is not a problem. What is a problem is finding folks who have great pictures of coins that they want to share on the site, thus the post here. I will continue to post the ones I have and the ones that go through my hands but I wanted to build a site with greater variety. Doing a contest is an idea I will consider though Thanks
MVC - Not only is there a similar site where anyone can post pics of coins and just coins - the site also makes the pics of the coins they have available for use. It's called - The Coin Page
Hey thanks millions for that link. And WOW, on the left side they have additional links to many, many other such sites and info. Now that is a great web site. Thanks again.
Very nice site MVC! A couple or so questions. Do you mind us posting pics of coins we have with dealer grades as opposed to slabbing company grades? Did you want us to post verified error coins? Also, do we retain exclusive rights to our own pictures? Thanks for the creating the site. I know it is a labor of love because websites can be like having a new puppy in the house... needing constant attention and cleaning up after... Best, jeankay
Hi Mike, I certainly appreciate you trying again. I looked and they are not there. I later loaded some myself so I know that it should be working. When I first setup the sight I had a similar problem. It turned out the pictures I was loading were too big/were beyond the maximum settings in the program. I wonder if that might be it. Can you PM me the picture specs, etc? Thanks again
Hi, yes you can post coins with dealer grades. The system is setup for people to comment on each picture, so if people do not agree, they can post a comment Yes, verified error coins would be great. If there is not a section that you need, please let me know Exclusive rights? Well, I had intended to setup the site for all to use. I am not a professional photographer so I do not care if others use my pictures. My goal is to have coins of all denominations, dates and grades so that people can view and help them identify coins and/or assist in potential grading. Yes, that is a lofty goal. With the comment sections, if someone submits a coin as F12 and it is clearly G4, I hope people will add comments so that the casual viewer will not be misled. If someone downloads a picture to use in their own website, etc, I would hope they might give some credit, but it is something I am not enforcing. Thanks
