    LCS Visit Part 1

I went to the LCS looking for a 1994 Jefferson Coinage and Currency set. I found one with a beautifully toned Satin Jefferson nickel. I also found two toned nickels in the dollar bin. The associate there knows me now, and he had set aside two cents with sweet toning so I could make animated photos. He said he was keeping them on the counter and showing them to people, but gave them to me for free!

Now really this was $50 on the dot, but if I subtract the 2 cents I can post here in the "under $50" thread. I will take better photos of everything and post them, but here's the haul.

The set contains a mint $2.00 bill, a commemorative silver dollar, and the Satin nickel. The reverse has a golden color now.

And here's a teaser on one of the cents.

I already had a couple of these, so why did I buy another for around $10?

    'Cause I really liked it!

(I also like that 1934 was the only year they went with the original long-tail 3, going back to the rounded style the next year. Eventually they got back to it permanently.)

I posted my other two just about two years ago in Post Your Lincolns.

<$100 Lot "Problem Coins" at LCS
I went back the next day when I realized what I bought in the lot (also not pictured for the sub $100 price tag.. 1919S SLQ & $2 in 1800s US "junk).

This time they looked up each coin I picked out in the book, felt like they hosed me. I paid $140 for half the amount of coins this time. At least they let me walk out with a 1877 CC VF Half for $30.

First up, the free Proof cent that couldn’t be seen at all in the original post. Lovely orange toning that’s very uniform on both sides. And the strike is terrific, too.

This is the second of the two free cents from my visit to the coin shop. It's the last of the wheat reverses.

It may look like doubling on the date, but I'm pretty sure it's just a reflection. The electric green color, though, deserves a closer look.

These two came in sample ANACS slabs in the dollar bin. Not sure why they bother charging a dollar, now that I think about it. I sorta think I paid gray sheet for the Jefferson set, and these were really free, too.

Usually I stay away from the DCAM/UCAM pre-1965 proofs. The coin most of the time does not live up to the hype of the label. Then there is the cost of say a PR69DCAM coin. This seller agreed with my assessment and sold me this coin like that old D wasn't even there. $35 BIN. It looks good in my collection.

I bought this a few years back for about $20. I liked the neon rainbow pattern.

I was looking for the Jefferson Coinage and Currency set because it contains the first Satin finish Jefferson nickel. The sets can be found cheaper on eBay than the $50 I paid, but I can't pick those up and look at them. Here is the nickel that prompted the trip to the store.

It's hard to believe it's a little scuffed up, since it has spent its entire life in a plastic capsule inside the commemorative set. Even so, the reverse has toned to a golden hue, while the obverse is still fully white.

I’ll throw this here too: HK-606 So Called Dollar R5 or R6, this is my 3rd example, but the only one with the original eagle pin still attached. These were struck with and without holes, and have seen them straight graded either way. Other than a little carbon spotting, this coin is Uncirculated, and cost me $20.50!
