Can someone help me and let me know if this 1978 quarter is unique in any way. Might be hard to see in the picture but the head of Washington is a different color.

AnonymousCoinCollector Reintroduce silver coins to circulation!

The 1978 quarter is a proof coin.
    The others are not.

Did you find it in circulation?

I thought I replied but don’t see my response. Anyways yes I have had this coin for about 20 years. Not sure what a proof coin is or if they are even worth anything. I have several coins that I will be digging into on this forum. Thanks for the help

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

A proof coin is a method of manufacture that requires specially prepared dies and planchets as opposed to the standard dies and planchets used for coins intended for circulation. Most proof coins have a mirror finish with cameo devices and are processed by gloved hands to protect them.

    Here is an example.
