Not so typical combination of errors

Meow has found many recent ATB quarters CRH, that have lots of grease on die strikes. And Meow has found many State and ATB quarters with dies chips. But never on the same coin. Meow was under the impression that new dies had grease on them, that gradually faded away as it was used. So to find a die chip and grease on the same coin, Meow thought that would be rare occurrence. This is a 2008 p Arizona quarter; It has a fair amount of grease on both sides, and two die chips in the B of liberty.

Ooops, Meow had shown two different obverse images. Must have got the files mixed up. Anyway you can see in the close up, grease+Die chip. Meow thinks the other image was another coin that was stuck by the same defective die.

 

Meow !! Shame on you !! You know you are more purr-fect than that.

Meow is a good kitty, and does not partake in drugs and alcohol.

 

Catnip I believe is a natural herb. I gave it to all 5 of my cats when I had them. Just like when we brew coffee to wake us up or tea to relax us. I would not put catnip in the drugs and alcohol category.
What's wrong with you people and cats?!

Struck Through and Die Chips can occur at the same time.. They are 2 separate issues that happen with a worn die.

 

Its just that Meow thought that combo would not happen very often, that's all. Meow just wanted to show the recent finds to you all.

 

Caffeine is considered a Drug, Catnip too. Alcohol is a poison that is used as a drug.
You should talk with you local Shaman.

Meow, I personally enjoy your finds and I think your photography shows what you wish us to see very well! I am not an expert so I could not opine about your technical question. The experts came along to do that. Hopefully, you will continue to show us your coins and I will avoid any unnecessary joking around.

Caffeine is a dangerous drug for cats and dogs. The LD50 ( lethal dose for 50%) is only 70 milligrams per pound of body weight. Consider that a pkg of Equal or such ( for comparison) is 1000 milligrams, it is a very small dose unless your dog or cat is about 30lbs. Many dogs are that weight but few cats should drink coffee or foods with caffiene. Catnip reaction is hereditary, about 50% of cats react to the Nepetalactone chemical. Sniffed, it excites the cat, but eaten it is relaxant .

Oddly caffeine puts me to sleep.
Never touch alcohol. I don't understand the use of it. Seriously.
Most artificial sweeteners make me light headed/dizzy.
Makes grocery shopping difficult when you label read as much as me.

 

Don't forget the minting machine itself has grease on it which gets spewed all over the place all the time from it's high speed. Flicks the stuff on the dies too ...

 

Well, I have learned quite a lot from this thread....not all about coins, but useful information, all the same. I only use wine (mixed with something to dilute it) for ceremonial purposes. I don't smoke and i don't smoke. I do drink one large cup (probably about two actual cups) of coffee each day either hot or iced depending on the season.

 

Die chips and struck through grease aren't rare on the atb quarters.
