What if someone shot up their school because they got the idea from a penny? We're over-the-top politically correct nation. It's sad, seriously.

so, let me get this straight... how many of these 2009 cents will feature Lincolns face on both sides???

While I will stay away from any political debate regarding these coins (that is basically a US decision), the four designs that the newspaper site shows are too detailed in my opinion. Yep, less would indeed be more in this case.

Kind of odd, by the way, that in both the window title and the gallery headline, it says "New Lincon penny designs" while in the text it actually says Lincoln. :D

I believe 3 of the 4 designs would have lincoln on both sides. The designers were told they must be small enough to avoid the perception of a two headed coin.

I can believe that if it can be screwed up, the mint will find a great way to do it. These are gonna suck. A 2009 S VDB in original composition metal would have been great, then retire the cent. But no, we'll see poor designs and then they'll want to do something for 2010, oh wait, they already do want to do something for 2010. Crap.

In reading Lange this morning, I seen where prior to the change to the Memorial, the birthplace log cabin of Abe Lincoln was considered. This may not be a bad idea....Ive seen versions of the 2009 which incorporate this.

Heres a thought . Why dont we all email the mint with a grouped idea of what we think would be the best idea for the new cent. Some one start a pole with a list of ideas, ranging from whatever to a simpler design.

I myself like the idea i have where the Wheat back design is brought back for just 2009 for the reverse. With a face on look of Abe on the obverase. Like the Newer Jefferson Nickels.

Goes anyone on here know how to start a pole like this? Say a list of Ideas from 1 to 5 or 10 ? and we send the pole results to the MINT. Maybe we can have some sorta impact. Isnt this county about WE THE PEOPLE? If anythign it would be a good topic.

The mint will never go back to the wheat design. They're all about the new America and moving forward. I know, its sad. Plus the deadline for submissions have already ended. They'll just disregard any "petition" as junk hate mail. This country was free and about we the people about 200 years ago. Not anymore.

We the people can only make a difference if we comply to whatever regulations set forth by whatever group. Then may god have mercy on your soul if you say anything that is invalid or non-politically correct.

But good luck if you attempt to do it. I hope you get through to them.

First of all guys the mint is not who need to talk to. The mint only does what Congress tells them to do. You need to talk to Congress.

The mint can only do what Congress tells it to do. The law that OKed the change for the 2009 cent was passed back in 2005 and mandated 4 different reverse designs depicting 4 stages of Lincolns life and the obv. must be Brenners profile of Lincoln.
This ship sailed years ago, just hope for the best.

I agree, don't like the raised hand. It should be behind his back or something. One of you photo-shop people should put a cup of dunkin donuts coffee in his hand
