I no longer have this Julia Domna denarius, but when I bought it I did so only for the portrait, because it hooked me at first sight.
Here is another Severan beauty: IVLIA SOAEMIAS AVG – Bust right, wearing paludamentum, stephane on head VENVS CAELESTIS S C – Venus seated left on throne, holding long sceptre and showing apple, child at her feet. Three Empresses, I would take Lucilla as the looker. Galla Placida Taufer & Fau) Herrenia Etruscilla (Leu) Lucilla (Gorny & Mosch)
I would find it hard to have a one in a million girl! There are so many to choose from. I think this is one of mine: but this one is also a favorite, although she is a bit worn- she is very lovely! Phew, thats five posts in a single day. I think I am good for another 4-5 years.
I must admit I don't usually collect this type, but one look at Plautilla and I had to have her. Don't know why her husband Caracalla had her murdered. As for the second, well beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Hmm... despite having a very tiny collection of ancients, I have quite a few female beauties. More than I thought, actually. (Yeah, OK, Helios in that second-to-last one is a dude, but pretty effeminate, wouldn't you say?)
PS- @Ryro- I like your grey beauty, there! PPS- that Tubes song sure brought back some memories of the year after high school. Used to roar around in my '75 Cutlass coupe with that album blaring from the tape deck.
