Better example, when I bought this coin I paid $300 for it. You can count on 1 hand the examples known to exist.
Valuable? Probably this dollar. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/99o.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/99r.jpg
1812 single leaf bust dollar - cherry pick off of an ebay dealer - general thinking is that there are about 15 of them known zap
The rarest coin I have. Neither one is particularly rare in and of itself: First, probably a this trade dollar. Find another one like it in this date and grade and I would be very suprirised: Second, here's a pretty tough coin to find looking like this: However, in terms of fewest minted it is probably this proof, for instance this one has a mintage of 590, but is far easier to find than either of the first two: Just goes to show that mintage doesn't necessarily equate to rarity...Mike
Mine would be a 1857 Flying Eagle Cent, Au 55, Snow 22. It's attributed to me last year, so I don't know if there are any more reported out there.
Mike, that is a beautiful 1798 cent you have there! Nice smooth surfaces from the photo. As you say, not easy to find early cents looking like that. Which variety is it? Eduard
Gere you go Eduard....One from not far from you. Not that rare, but in pretty good shape for being so old... Can you identify it?
Mike, i leafed thru a few old Catalogues of mine, and found nothing like it. So i will take a wild guess: Poland?
I will guess Lithuania. (See LITVA on the obverse.) And a quick check of eBay confirms my suspicion with a similar example dated 1548. Item 370007090791
That must be rare! What country was it from? Since the US stopped in 1803 and restarted with the Seated Liberty's, except for the restrikes of 1804.
Some of my ancients probably have fewer known examples, but as far as U.S. coins go, I have an 1849 Small Head, Open Wreath, No L Gold Dollar. It's graded AU58 by NGC. It's really a nice coin to have with an estimated mintage of 1,000 of this variety. That's not to say that 1,000 survive today. I really enjoy this tiny gold coin.
I have to post this, just because I like the picture 1877 Indian PR65RB Mintage 510, collected for 130 years!
Leadfoot, that 1874 Trade dollar is breathtaking! :thumb: And that proof IHC ambro is also! Nice coins everyone! :thumb: Phoenix
