I'm a little bit confused about this coin. On numista says that 2099 means 2011 (9 is 1) which means that coin is from 1954 (they use a different calendar year). https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces26251.html But when I'm trying to find it on ngc it says it's a newer design. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/search/1/?country=NEPAL®ion=All Regions&denom=Rupee&date=&catalogInitials=&catalogNumber= Anyone knows which one is the real date?
Could not both statements be true? It seems that Nepal began minting the rupee in early 1930s. Compared to 1930s, 1954 is more recent. And when compared to other world coins that were minted many hundreds of years ago and ancient coins which were minted thousands of years ago, 1954 is pretty recent. This coin was minted during my lifetime and I am not in any rocking chair or out of circulation ... yet. (couldn't resist the coin pun).
I see your coin listed in Krause under 1954 (KM 742 & 743), so that seems to be correct. If you're seeing a newer design, perhaps they later brought back a retro design for new coins. That happens sometimes.
I'm quite sure it is KM#743. http://worldcoingallery.com/countri...3&desc=Nepal km743 1 Rupee (1954)&query=Nepal
It does look like it but this is the link that me question it... https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...ee-km-742-2010-2011-cuid-1085618-duid-1464679
I understand why you would. Some of the info on NGC price guide has been a bit off in the last year, I have seen higher values for lower grades way to often. I think the date translation was not put in on that page.
They just haven't translated the date there to our calendar. It's 2010 and 2011 in the Nepalese calendar just like you said earlier.
