I bought this a while back and wasn't quite sure what I had. any Ideas? I was told it was a silver Prototype for approval but was turned down. pictures are here, weight is 15.7 grams. You tell Me!
Hey. I'm not quite exactly sure what that is, but I don't believe it would be a prototype, or more accurately a pattern. Especially given the fact that it says 999 pure silver, I'd think that'd be unlikely. It may be some form of a medal / token.
thanks that's why I ask. You folks give a different light to the subject. (most time pretty durn close)
Thank you Jwitten, so it IS a proto type this answers a few questions. Just curious about the "D" mint mark. Wondering if it was backed by Denver mint?
It's a Daniel Carr "non Dollar" silver token/coin. if you read the top of the page link provided by jwitten. I was told it was passed around a lot to folks to "approve" the coin IE: congress or mint folks, could have been a story to sell the coin/token
Even though I am not a fan of Carr, the detailing( even with the wear) looks even below Chinese copies of the era.
