Dime rubbed smooth on one side???

    anyone care to enlighten me as to why this dime looks this way please?

    It wasn't anything that happened at the Mint. I'm 71, and I don't think I'll have enough years left in my life to list all of the possibilities that could have occurred while it was in circulation.

    It looks like someone used a grinding wheel on it. Definitely PMD (post mint damage) as Chris said.

    I have done a few like that with a palm sander with 150 grit.
    Just to prove to my brother that it wasn't an error, and could easily be repeated.


    I think it was 2 dimes in less than a minute.

    if you ask the person that did it, you'll have the exact answer.
    of course, anything less than that and it's just speculating.

    All you have to be able to do is identify that it was not a mint error, and it was damaged outside after the mint by someone wanting to do something with it. Or maybe stuck in some mechanical device later found.
