Hello all, I'm new to the forum and would like to know if this is a lamination error and possible value.
I am not an error expert but I would say, no, that is not a lamination. The clad layer is coming off in places and has other problems as well.
What does the reverse look like? To me, it looks like post mint damage. The discoloration of the nickel layer above JFK's head leads me to believe that it was exposed to heat and this caused the bubbling and "removal" of the clad layer where the copper is exposed. Also, the extremely "rough" areas of the coin lead me to believe that some kind of corrosive "agent" came in contact with the coin. If it was a real error, it would be a heck of an error ....... lamination and struck with some terribly damaged obverse die! Post mint damage.......
reverse side pic There is chipping to the copper on the shield and also slight chipping between the wing and the tips of the arrows. Over the UN is also chipped off with black color instead of the copper color. The discolored top part looks like the whole layer is missing, but the reeded edge assosciated with that area is normal color. Thanx for all your replies.
