Why do you feel you need digital especially for coins? I got by with mechanical for 35 years and never had a problem.
The Harbor freight one , often on sale at 9.99 for the 6" one is quite serviceable and as accurate as the lab's $500 one. I wrap small piece of black electrical tape on the jaw edge and re-zero, and dependable. Had the same one for years. Jim
Agree with Jim I use Mitutoyo at work, but have a cheap pair from Harbor Freight that I use at home for coins and it works fine. Before that I used a cheapo plastic dial caliper that I got in grad school (like you, I find digital easier to read as I've aged). Never had a problem with either
@Dave Waterstraat is right. Mitutoyo is as good as they get, but any high quality digital caliper will do for your purpose.
Keep in mind, mine was purchased for work many years ago along with several digital micrometers. I agree they would be over-kill for a collector checking diameters and thicknesses. But I did adhere to the OP's instructions...
