1940 something wheat penny with only 3 digits and is heavily deformed

I came across a 1940 something wheat penny with only 3 legible digits and is heavily distorted can someone shed some light upon this coin

dryer coin?
got stuck between the drums and got worns/metal moved around the edges.

ie, falls out of the pocket ... gets past the lint catcher .. and viola .. now inside the dryer drums.

 

I dont believe so due to the fact that the depth of the damage and the depth on linclons head are identical also i forgot to post a pic of the edge

 

Vice or plier marks

 

I dont believe so due to the fact that the all around thickness is uniform and the depth of the edges and Lincoln's head are the same and the edge of the coin is also damaged it has a groove all the way around

You have a DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged
That is not a Mint Error of any kind.
Just altered.
Only the very bored person who created it knows how it was done. That definitely did not happen at the Mint

 

The side view shows something completely different.
Looks like someone pressed down the edges to get that concave edge around it. There's vice marks on parts of it .. looking closer.

you'll notice that it's not round anymore either.
Best to ask the person who did it why they did that.

 

No there arent any but what gets me is the depth of the head and deformity are exactly the same front and back

I don't think that damage was caused by a dryer, either, but it certainly did not come from the Mint looking like that. There are umpteen millions of ways that coins can be damaged while in circulation. Sometimes the damage is intentional, and sometimes it is accidental. I believe that your coin was intentionally damaged by someone. Who? I don't know! With what? I don't know!

Yes it is round it is the same size as another penny in diameter and thickness

 

your coin is damaged, you'll never know how unless you find the person who did it, toss it aside an move on...

 

Well sir it may not be a good photo but that is not the mark of either a vise or plier but thankyou for your opinion

 

We weren't there when it was done, so we don't
know exactly what machinery or tool was used,
but as others have said, the coin is without a doubt
Damaged/Altered.

It did not leave the U.S. Mint like that - period.

We're all sorry it's not what you think or hoped it would be,
but rest assured what you see is the result of someone
doing that to the coin; it wasn't minted like that.

 

I repeat.. Just damage.
Don't waste your time with it.
