OK so here is the latest on the upcoming changes by our government with the no more Analog signals and everything changing to Digital. They just released this info on the news. If your home security system is a radio sending system, it may well be one of the older Analog systems and when the change overs occur, POOF, no more security system. On the news they suggested all individuals with a home security system, contact your security company and request info on what happens when the government forces this changover. They stated that even some wireless phone systems may not work or not work to great. As you all know in February of 2009 if you have an antenna for your TV reception, your TV will no longer work. Of course you can purchase a Analog to Digital converter for your TV.
That does seem to lurk on the not so distant horizion for those who rely on this particular technichology. However, the home security system we (I) employ won't be affected by the looming change-over, shut-down, or implementation of digital radio signals. Three dogs, several weapons/guns, a safe, and an office adjacent to the house are crime deterant enough for me. Take Care Ben
The good ol' lock and key has worked for me for many moons. I am the only one who knows where the key is. That is if they get past the gauntlet of firearms awaiting them.
Better check out your information. Sounds like another phony-baloney consipracy scare. The FCC is absolutely not shutting down all analog radio signals. Your security system, garage door opener, police band scanner, ham radio, CB, etc., etc., etc., will work the same on February 20, 2009 as they do today. The changeover on 2/19/09 won't even affect 100% of analog broadcast TV, although it will be close. Some low power stations will still be broadcasting analog signals. The great majority of commercial and PBS TV stations will, however, be exclusively using digital signals and your older TVs will need a converter to receive over-the-air signals. Cable and satellite systems will handle the conversion for their customers and you'll never notice the change.
Yes that appears to be an issue for a lot of people but not me personally. The home security system I use is a little bit of Modern technichology and a little bit of Middle ages technichology. I guess for me, there will be a little clean up work after some one has made the mistake to attempt a B&E on my property. But I don't mind that.
AR15 has a drum mag? If I knew that I'd have bought one. I'm having problems with the drum type for the Ruger 10/22. Ever see the additional length mags for the Mauser Broomhandle? Bonedigger: Which is cheaper food for three dogs or a home security system that may or may not work? As to the NOT ALL TV stations going digital. If your in an area such as a large city, Chicago for example, ALL broadcasting WILL be chaged over to digital on that day. No exceptions around here.
Yeah theres a drum for the AR15. As for the Rugar I have one but i never looked into the add ons for it. I did see a 30 round clip for it, Plastic I beleive.
Yes, all TV broadcasting now on channels 2-69 will switch over, but my point is that the mandatory changeover affects only that chunk of frequency and that mode of broadcasting. It WILL NOT CHANGE burglar alarm monitoring frequencies, any more than it will change your AM or FM radio broadcasts or my ham radio activities, or my neighbor's CBing, or my local police department's communications, or any other non-TV broadcasting or communications whatsoever.
I have no idea what a home security system costs. And besides between the time the alarm goes off it could easily take the Highway Patrol over an hour to respond depending where the Cruiser is within the county when the report is called in. We spend roughly $100 a month on dog food, but they are like part of the family, besides they're (2 Labs) pretty good grouse and pheasant (bird) dogs. Take Care Ben
I can see using a gun for personal protection, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't shoot someone who stole from me even if I caught them in the act. It's a terrible mental burden to carry around for the rest of your life. And if it isn't a burden, that can be a sign of even greater problems.
Lets compare. Would a security system run to meet you when you come home? Would a security system lay by your side when your sick? If the electical in your area goes out does you dog still love you, answer you, bark if an intruder approaches? If you don't feel well does your security system give you that sad look? HHMMMMM. Maybe your right after all.
