What to do with mutilated silver coins?

It was a youthful indiscretion (or perhaps a psychotic lapse).
We did cut it up with a heavy-duty wire cutter. Silver is soft enough to make that fairly easy.

It hadn't occurred to me, but just for fun, I might try to see if it can be put back together. I'm pretty sure all the pieces are there.

I did this back when I didn't know any better. I'm glad it was a 57D and not a 32D. The funny thing is that cutting it up hasn't really affected its value.

 

That's an extremely deep and valuable concept that everyone should note. Money didn't originally obtain it's value because it was issued by the government's mint or because legal tender laws said you had to accept it. Money had value because the underlying metal of a specific weight and fineness gave it value. It still does.

 

With holed coins I come across, I give them to a friend who's into Belly Dancing. She collects holed coins and adds them to her costume. Makes her costume that much more....."Special."

I think she has at least $250 "worth" of silver coins on her costume from Trimes to Silver Dollars, including 3 impressive Half Dollar/Silver Dollar Belts.

 

Darn phonetic substitutions. Lately I find myself typing "their" instead of "there" the most. Thanks for the heads up. Strange how the mind works (or maybe malfunction would be a better word).
