The 70-S in the photo is worth a nickel.

Actually you are welcome to ask questions here. Some of our members get a little testy, but if you can take that with a grain of salt, there is much good information and many good people here.

  4. That's great I am a person who can accept when I am wrong and I have very thick skin, I treat everyone with respect even when they treat me with respect. I believe in that principle what goes around will come around so I'm still trying to learn and I am very excited about coin hunting so that's once again for all and any information.

First welcome to the forum.. There's plenty type of people whom have been collecting well some over 50,60 plus years.
Most members are more than willing to answer your questions as well guide you in purchasing coins. Please ask before you buy......it's better to ask a dumb question then gamble and be taken for your money.
Also if you care to research Google your questions there's plenty of information to be had.

  6. What do you all think about this nickel just found it in one of my nickel rolls 1942.

That a type 1 1942 P nickel, let me explain something about nickels as a nickel collector.....even though nickels have produced some crazy amounts of money in auctions. They are few and far between.. If you're interested in just filling an album circulated coins are fine. They are easy and cheap to find.
I have 2 complete sets in ms and proof Jefferson nickels . Some very nice coins
However their value is not even $300 per set in unc. Coins. You be lucky to sell a full set of Jefferson nickels. They are fun to collect and easy series to complete, but you wont get rich.... fill your album and always look for up grades.

No problem I love the 5 cent piece. As a kid that's what my mom gave me every day for candy at school. Of course candy was 1 cent each.....so I was good to go all day at school :)

Initially, this thread was a little confusing, but that appears to be cleared up. As others have said, the 1970-S CENTS have small and large dates. There are some threads on CT that show nice, close up pics of the them. You could also Google it. Once you have good side by side pics of the SD and LD, you should be able to tell if you have a the small date cent.

  11. I will put both SD and LD up in about 3 hours I am not at home at the moment, so you can take a look at both coins!

Hi. I am very new to coins and had a question. I have a 1970 quarter, no mint mark and it's black! Not dirt black but I very beautiful black. Does anyone know why it's black and if it might be worth some money? Any information would be helpful. Thanks

The 1970 proof set with the "No S" Roosevelt dime is the expensive set.

I know about the 1959 black beauty nickel. It was punched on a heated planchet, there for it came out black. I was wondering if the same happened to this quarter. I've see other "black coins" but this one is different. I wish I could take a picture. My camera is not working right.
