    Looking for a little help.

I scanned this nickel next to a lincoln cent but the colors are closer than they appear. The nickel looks copper just not as shiny as the penny.
It is a normal size nickel.

Anyone have an idea what this might be?

Do you a coin that was found by a metal detector?

Would it change the color being underground?

Yes it would but it all depends on what type of soil it was in, if the soil had a lot of iron in it then the coin would turn a reddish color and if the soil had surfer in it the coin would turn more white in color or would become more corroded.

It could be discolored, plated, stained, a struck counterfeit, or an improper annealing error ("copper wash", "sintered plating"). It's hard to say without a detailed examination under a microscope. How much does it weigh?

    I appreciate the opinions.
I will get it weighed at post that when I find out.

I have pulled plenty of those from the ground while metal detecting.

This nickle is very dark, looked like silver that turned black. But it has red spots when looked at with loop.
