This one makes me say wow because it was the first collectible coin I ever owned. It was given to me 47 years ago when I was a kid. For some reason it did not spark an interest in coins then. The wow factor is that I did not seriously start to collect coins until a couple of years ago but somehow managed to keep this through my wild teens and twenties and did not try to clean it like some of my LMCs or glue it into a folder like some of my wheaties as a pre teen.
I was viewing the Stack's Rarities Night lots and when I got to the gold, I said "Wow" way to many times to count. One of my favs was a 1909 Indian Eagle at PF66+. If you want to see some truly gorgeous gold coins, I recommend spending some time viewing their lots. The gold starts on page 4 (36 lots per page).
This is my ultimate WOW coin. I just think this is so iconic. And I have never laid my eyes on one except in books.
I can’t tell you how much I love your collection. Is Charlotte gold the extent of your collecting interest?
Thank you, Randy. Both Charlotte and early, pre-1834 Half Eagles are my favorite areas. When it comes to consistency and living up to the title of “work-horse” for the US monetary system from day-one until WW1, nothing compares to the HE w/ exception of maybe the 1 cent coin.
